this week’s mix comes from dc recordings artist kelpe or kel mckeown as his bank manager knows him.

kel first started turning heads back in 2003 with the fractured beats of his first dc ep “the people are trying to sleep”. since gaining heady praise from no other than the wire for his first long player “see inside body” – they called it “one of the most engrossing listens in recent electronic music” – he has kept busy producing musc inspired by such great as steve reich, tortoise and harmonia – you can see why we like him.

if this mix gets you excited why not pick up his most recent album “ex-aquarium” here and for furthur investigastion check the remix ep it spawned “extraquarium” with reinterpratations by zombie zombie, the oscillations and others. and for those in manchester (remember we’re at naive melody this friday) you can sample the kelpe live experience at the deaf institute on march 26th.

animal collective mix – by josh deacon (34.30mb, 29:57mins)

this week we’re honoured to have a mix from one of our favourite bands of the last decade, and seemingly one of the buzziest of bands of the moment, and rightly so. yes, it’s the wonderful animal collective.

sam had the honour of doing the press for AC on their last three records and can vouch for the fact that not only are they hugely and uniquely talented individuals, but also thoroughly lovely people to boot. for that reason, we’d like to make an appeal that you head over to domino’s label shop to purchase a copy of ACs latest opus ‘merriweather post pavillion’. yes, you can find a version for free elsewhere on the internet, but c’mon, do the right thing and support the guys here!

the mix itself was put together by josh ‘deacon’ dibb, and features 30 minutes of gentle, psychedelic wonder, from arthur russell, aphrodite’s child and their own panda bear to name a few – perfect for staring out of the window on a rainy day. unfortunately we don’t have a tracklisting, but sometimes a touch of mystery is a good thing no?

the band will be returning to britain in spring for a set of dates. get the tickets whilst you still can.

we’re back and ready to grab the new year by its curl and shorties. helping us out with that bizarre task is ex-pat irishman gavin herilhy. the mixmag scribe and now in demand dj and producer has upped sticks to some place called berlin to ply his trade.

since his debut hit ‘the machine ate my homework’ came out moodmusic, he has released his brand of underground house and techno on kindisch, buzzin fly and get physical amongst others. you can check out his work over at his myspace.

the new bundle by optimo contains tracks by naum gabo, muslimguaze, lakes and, the reason for this lengthy premable) an original allez-allez track. ‘slump’ is described as sounding “like Chris and Cosey riding a flying hoover over the city in Blade Runner.” bounce on over here to pay your pound and gorge on the musical feast.
