lesser panda entered this world in early 2006 when singer mariano robles frogmarched four startled guys out of an east london bath-house straight into his studio round the corner. once there one of london’s finest live acts were formed. playing a dance rock sound that has been compared to bauhaus by optimo and by others to the early good simple minds their single ‘happy birthday’ (produced by riton) will be released at the end of october. to mark the occasion we have this lovingly hand crafted mix done by mariano’s fair hands.

time flows fast for one more grain. it was only in september 2006 that the band played their first gig, in the dank basement under a derelict bow boozer. since then, one more grain have released debut album ‘pigeon english’ to critical acclaim, acquired a brand new rhythm section, played a plethora of gigs (including one alongside pere ubu), and recorded second long-player ‘isle of grain’. in between all that they have found time to compile this mix for us that contains the same strain of melancholic lyricism found in their music.

the black dog are the first artists to feature on allez-allez who could be referred to as legends without it seeming like hyperbole. founded by ken downie, ed handley and andy turner in the 1980s they were reponsible for some of the key release in the early UK electronic music scene and with their rhythmic inventiveness and innovative approach to music became techno pioneers.

soma has recently being reissuing this long unavailable material and to celebrate the re-release of the newly remastered album ‘temple of transparent balls‘ have given us this blistering live set recorded this year at the equally legendary sub club in glasgow to share.

if you’re about in east london this sunday then head down to the arcola theatre where steve will providing the music at the film and art screening simon and the radioactive flesh. it promises to be quiter something. more details here.
